Having your wisdom teeth removed should not be scary, and neither does it have to be painful. For faster recovery after getting your wisdom teeth removed, there are several things you can do.
One of the most reliable pain relief tactics after getting your wisdom teeth removed is icing your cheeks and jaws. This will also significantly reduce the swelling and bruising that you might experience after surgery. For the best results, you should apply an ice pack to the cheek side of the extraction site for around 20 minutes. After that, take it off and let the face calm down for about 20 minutes before re-icing. You should do this as many times as possible for the first 48 hours after your procedure.
Bite Down Gently on a Gauze Pad
Our dentists might advise that you bite down gently on a gauze pad to stop the bleeding in the extraction area. Doing so will help in the formation of blood clots in the gums. This is especially important because it helps protect the exposed wound from possible infections. It is crucial that you bite down gently so as not to reopen the wound. Besides, you might also have to bite down on the pad for around five minutes to stop the bleeding.
Follow Our Pain Medication Prescription
Depending on your tolerance to pain, pain-relieving medications may be enough to relieve wisdom teeth removal pain. Certain OTC medications can also help you recover from the pain. However, when it comes to OTC medications, you should only use the ones we have prescribed. This is because you might be allergic to some that might make things worse. However, considering the increased cases of worsened toothaches after the consumption of unauthorized OTC medications, you should always check with us first.
